It is anticipated that the Southeast Parkinson Disease Association (SEPDA) will be awarding individual research grants
in 2006 (pending funding). Grants amounts are tbd; no indirect costs are permitted. This program is designed to
support projects of the highest scientific caliber from educational research centers in Florida that:
-
Are directly relevant to the study of causes of and a cure for Parkinson disease;
-
Are complementary to, not duplicative of, other research in the field;
-
"High-risk, high yield" projects are encouraged, provided that they are thoughtfully composed and reasonably likely to
advance the state of the knowledge about Parkinson disease.
Both basic-research and clinical-research proposals are eligible for support. Preference will be given to post-doctoral
researchers who are at an early stage of their professional careers.
Awards will be made for one year, but second- and third-year awards may be sought, contingent upon successful competition
with new proposals. Should a grant recipient receive funding for three consecutive years, the grantee will not be eligible
to apply for another grant under this program for a period of one year from the date of the last SEPDA grant disbursement
check to them.
Any and all equipment budgeted in an approved proposal and purchased with funds provided by this SEPDA Grant Program will
be the property of the sponsoring institution and will remain at that institution in the event that the investigator departs.
No grant funds may be used to pay for or reimburse indirect, administrative, or "overhead" costs.
All grantees will be expected to provide a brief but meaningful report to SEPDA, detailing the manner in which the grant
monies have been used, recounting the successes or failures of the efforts undertaken with grant monies, and identifying the
publication(s) in which any aspect of the project has or will be reported on. A grant report form will be made available
on the website. Grantees seeking second- or third-year funding must file such reports timely as a prerequisite to having
their applications for further funding considered by SEPDA's Science Advisory Board (SAB). The deadlines for reports
will be set forth in the aforementioned report forms. Failure to complete grant reports and file them timely may result
in discontinuation of the grant.
Any material change of circumstances (e.g., change or move of principal investigator) shall be reported immediately to
SEPDA, which shall retain the right to discontinue funding. All published works must acknowledge in an appropriate manner
that the research is supported by the Southeast Parkinson Disease Association.
DEADLINE AND STARTING DATE
The deadline for receipt of grant applications will be announced on our website. All applications shall be reviewed
by the SEPDA Science Advisory Board (SAB). Notification concerning awards will be made as soon as possible after peer
review by the SEPDA Science Advisory Board (SAB) and consideration by the SEPDA Board of Directors of the recommendations
of the SAB.
Funding shall be provided in two equal installments. The first half of the grant will be disbursed on the first working
day after the date when the grantee returns to SEPDA a form, accepting the grant and the terms thereof. The second half
will be disbursed six months later.
